Visit or stay in the oldest prison in New Zealand, which opened in 1862. At its busiest it held 82 prisoners. The huge stone wall was quarried by prisoners on "hard labour" and finished in 1906.
Walk through the huge native kauri doors past the "pound" which housed at risk prisoners and those on solitary confinement through the cell block which is in original condition with its grim interior and fascinating stories.
