Freedom Hire is where we provide you with the all the gear and the instruction on how to paddle your canoe safely down the Mighty Waikato River. It is a trip you, your friends and family can enjoy on your own.
The Waikato River is steeped in history and legends. There was once a time the waka (canoe) ruled this mighty river, with waka taua (war canoe) moving warriors up and down the river to and from battles. The river became a gateway to the Waikato for the government and the settlers during the land wars. It now supplies power and water to New Zealand's biggest citys.
Treat yourself to a fishing trip like no other - this is a one person tour only (special terms for more). Koi Carp are a type of fish which is now a pest in our waters. The client on this trip is the hunter with the spear gun and the experienced guide will get you onto your fish. First you spot the fish, then we stoke the fish, then we get onto the fish, then we catch the fish. This will happen off one of our Canadian style canoes, no need for swimming or walking the banks, this is not hard work but it is fun, so lets help remove this pest from our waters and have fun doin it!
